There is horse racing on the menu Wednesday, as we hope to find some winning horses across the US a day before Thanksgiving. We only had three racetracks to work with on Monday and Tuesday. Despite the small slate, yesterday was a winning day at Remington Park with a couple of winners. Mountaineer Park was a split, but thanks to the two winning horses at Remington Park, it was a positive day. And that’s all you can really ask for when it comes to horse racing. Chip away and chip away for a profit. Earlier in the year in May, I definitely wasn’t chipping away when I cashed a Pick 5 at Churchill Downs. However, on a daily basis, horse racing can be a grind.

We will get started early in the afternoon with a mile and 40-yard event for $10,500. This is the first race at Tampa Bay Downs since July 1. The way I see this race going, Campaign Spy and Jack B Winkle are likely going to run strong races in Race 1. Campaign Spy is 2 for 18 in his career, and boasts strong claims after placing 2nd on September 25.

After finishing 4th, 5th, 5th, 9th, Campaign Spy came back to place 2nd behind Shell Fire in a $11,500 event on September 25. He finished 5 ¾ lengths behind the winner in that performance. This was after Campaign Spy moved down in class to the $11,500 level, so you have to expect him running well in this spot as well for a $10,500 purse. In his most recent win, Campaign Spy beat Classy Papa by 1 ¾ lengths in a $13,500 event in July.

Jack B Winkle has finished in the top-3 in four straight performances. In his previous three performances, Jack B Winkle finished 2nd, 2nd, 1st. Before winning, Jack B Winkle placed 2nd behind Hard West by 5 lengths for a $17,000 purse on October 24 at Gulfstream Park West. He followed up to do one better on November 12 for a 5 length win of his own in a $17,000 assignment. He drove clear in the stretch and had no problem converting.

We turn around and get straight to the next event at Tampa Bay Downs with Race 2. Baby Bee Merry and Melancholy Blues are expected to run a close race at the wire. Baby Bee Merry transfers from Monmouth Park after struggling to make noise in her first two assignments. As a first-time runner, the rookie finished 5th on September 4 at Monmouth Park in a $47,500 race.

She tried her luck in another tough outing at Monmouth Park on September 26, but was denied again and finished 6th in a $46,250 event. This is going to be much easier for Baby Bee Merry. I don’t think he can be ignored given the class. Melancholy Blues has finished 3rd, 2nd, 2nd in her career and continues to show improvement.

She showed 3rd in her debut, and turned around to do one better in back-to-back performances. Melancholy Blues placed 2nd behind Flyta by 9 ¾ lengths in a $20,500 assignment, and then returned on October 10 to place 2nd behind My First Pearl by 1 length in another $20,500 event. Following that performance, Melancholy Blues drops in class for today to a $13,350 race. All indications suggest that she is ready for another big performance, and against an easier field, it should be a better chance for a win.

Race 8 is the feature race at Tampa Bay Downs on Wednesday. This event will run for 6 ½ furlongs for a $21,250 purse on the main track. I hold Hauntedbythemusic and High Five Cotton in top regard for Race 8. Hauntedbythemusic is 1 for 8 in his career with a win right out of the gate as a rookie on December 7, 2019.

However, since that win, Hauntedbythemusic has gone winless. That was a $27,000 win for Hauntedbythemusic by 6 ¼ lengths. It might have been false hope to win that class. Hauntedbythemusic has finished in the top-2 three times after, but hasn’t been strong enough to find a win.

In his most recent performance, Hauntedbythemusic finished 4th in a $42,000 event. His most successful race of late was at Delaware Park on September 2 in a $42,000 event. Hauntedbythemusic placed 2nd behind Skyscanner by 2 ¾ lengths for a solid effort in a tough class. Down in class, you have to expect Hauntedbythemusic to run well here.

High Five Cotton is 13 for 49 his career, with two straight wins going into this one. He was a winner on September 27 over El Potro by a neck in a $24,300 event at Monmouth Park. High Five Cotton took the lead at the top of the stretch and held on.

In his next outing, he beat Eye Luv Lulu by 1 length to beat the favorite in a $25,250 event. His form is great right now, and at 5/1 on the morning-line, there appears to be some good value on this horse.
